
Humanitarian of the Year
Rita Hall Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Humanitarian Awards
Los Angels Sheriffs Department Sergeant Rita Hall is fulfilling her duty of being a good community servant. For twenty-two years, she has served her community in a variety of ways. She is a mentor for the Sheriff’s Department program on at-risk youth and mentor for the Departments Career Development program. She is Chairperson of the Board of Cannon House Continuing Care for Substance Abuse Women. Sgt. Hall also lectures on crime prevention to senior citizens groups through the National Council of Negro Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is the author of EBONY BITTER SWEET – A CHOCOLATE GIRL IN A VANILLA WORLD. She was the recipient of the 2000 Humanitarian Award of National Black Peace Officers Association and recipient of the 2000 Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Modie Bell Senior Citizen’s Foundation.
Sgt. Hall acts as a motivational speaker at elementary and middle schools. She is coordinator of multiple Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas toy drives and yearly clothing drives. She is current chaplain and former vice president and secretary of the Black Peace Officers Association of Los Angels County. For fourteen years, Sgt. Hall has been a member of the West Angels Church of God in Christ and was co-founder of Law Enforcement and Firefighters Appreciation Day. Her church activities also include presiding over Rita’s Reading Room, a Christian women’s book club.
To continue listing all of her accomplishments would not give us time to recognize the other award recipients. In recognition of her tireless efforts to improve the quality of life in her community, this award is proudly bestowed to her.
