Nicholas Rubino
Sergeant, San Francisco Police Department
Sergeant Nicholas Rubino has spent the last 36 years with the San Francisco Police Department. His dedication and hard work has been felt throughout the San Francisco community in a variety of ways. He has vastly improved the quality of life in the San Francisco area through his crime-fighting skills as well as his community involvement. Sergeant Rubino, through his hands-on partnership with innumerable community groups, has contributed to the success of several special events where badly needed funds were raised.
Nick Rubino is the consummate police officer, particularly when working plainclothes assignments. His innate detective skills and finely honed police instincts have become legend throughout the San Francisco Police Department. Sergeant Rubino has served various communities within San Francisco with assignments at Mission Station, Potrero Station, Ingleside Station, Vice Crimes, the Inspectors Bureau and Special Investigations Bureau. During this period of community service, Sergeant Rubino earned two Silver Medals of Valor, one Bronze Medal of Valor, five Meritorious Conduct Awards, 10 Police Commission Commendations, and 11 Unit Citations. Nick was declared Police Officer of the Year on three different occasions, and was named as Mission Station’s Sergeant of the Year in 2003 and in 2005. He has been awarded a California State Senate Certificate of Recognition, a San Francisco Mayor’s Commendation, and over 250 Captain’s Commendations.
Since his promotion to Sergeant in 1999, Rubino has returned to the Mission District to serve as the Special Events Coordinator, coordinating huge events with incredible patience, attention to detail, compassion and devotion to public safety. Sergeant Rubino’s unique ability to constructively engage community members, businesses, advocacy groups and various city agencies regularly has created safe, vibrant and extraordinary civic events. These events continue to foster public and private partnerships that benefit all San Franciscans.
Sergeant Nicholas Rubino has worked courageously, compassionately and tirelessly throughout his long and productive career to improve the quality of life within San Francisco through his dedication and involvement with the community. His life-long dedication to the city of San Francisco, its police department and his fellow officers are to be commended.
The Golden Badge Foundation is honored to present Sergeant Nicholas Rubino with its first ever Charles Lazzaretto Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is presented by Charles Lazzaretto’s widow, Anna Maria and their two sons, Andrew and Mathew.
